PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Several athletes from the SKWC will compete in international freestyle competition over the next two months. Alex Nini (Italy) and Andrew Barbosa (Mexico) will represent the SKWC at the U20 World Championships from Aug. 17-24 in Samokov, Bulgaria. Mikey Labriola (Puerto Rico) and Dylan Shawver (Puerto Rico) will compete at the Senior World Championships, held Sept. 13-21 in Zagreb, Croatia.

Barbosa was selected to compete for Team Mexico at U20 Pan-American Championships from July 10-12 in Lima, Peru. Nini competed for Team Italy at the U20 European Championships from June 30-July 6 in Caorle, Italy.

Labriola and Shawver both represented Team Puerto Rico at the Polyák Imre & Varga János Memorial from July 17-20 in Budapest, Hungary.

More information on how to follow both events can be found below. It marks the first time the SKWC and Rutgers wrestling will have four or more individuals competing at freestyle world championships in the same season.

The appearances for all four continues a string of success for the SKWC on the international stage. Former resident athlete Sebastian Rivera captured a Bronze medal at last year’s Summer Olympics in Paris for Team Puerto Rico. Former letterwinners Anthony Ashnault and Richie Lewis also own international titles competing for Team USA.
